A Great Hike in a Transitional Rain Forest.
Rincón de la Vieja, means the old lady’s corner.
Rincon de la Vieja national park is an active volcano area, located 16 miles north from Liberia in Guanacaste, with a large number of fumaroles, bubbling water lagoons, little mud volcanoes and hot springs, make enough to understand the volcano activity.
The two hours hike is rigorous but spectacular, starts in transitional rain forest and as you hike, continues into low wet forest with a lot of vegetation.
There are a big variety of birds, trees and a great number of insect species; the park protects the largest population of wild purple orchid, the national flower in Costa Rica.
